About Justine McCarthy
I am an artist currently living in the small village of Starbotton in the Yorkshire Dales. I mostly work in mixed media, paint, pen and ink. But I am always interested in trying new skills and ways of working and have a particular enthusiasm for textures and patterns.
A vivid imagination has always been a unique strength for me (although some of my former school teachers may disagree!) and I often depict things the way I imagine them, rather than how they ‘actually’ appear. Inspired by plants, animals, and the beautiful landscapes I am so lucky to live in.
I started painting and drawing at a very young age, inspired by my grandmother. I went on to study art at A level, and earned an arts degree, with various side projects and awards along the way. But I always struggled with sitting indoors in classrooms.
When I’m not creating artwork, I spend most of my time with my three children, embarking on new creative projects and adventures. I enjoy walking, camping, running, wild swimming and observing wildlife. I’m always at my happiest when I’m outdoors - a joy which is reflected in my work.
